乐队简介：二十世纪六十年代中期，妈妈爸爸在正出现的反文化潮流和广阔的流行市场间搭起了一座桥梁。在他们热情奔放、和谐美妙的音乐中，以民谣摇滚为基音，伴随着他们独特的形象和生活方式，因而非常易于被推广接受。
       1964年，乐队在加州成立。当时的成员为John Phillips和妻子Michelle、Cass Elliott、Denny Doherty。
       1965年，乐队受雇于Dunhill唱片公司，负责给公司旗下艺人伴唱。有感於该乐队的努力工作和John Phillips超凡的作曲天赋——“California Dreaming”(加州之梦)，公司和他们签了约。
        乐队在1966年推出了单曲“California Dreaming”，在排行榜排名第4，共售出了100万张。同年，“Monday,Monday”、“I Saw Her Again”都先后进入排行榜前5名。尽管音乐在当时的西海岸反文化潮流的冲击下变得十分抽象，但妈妈爸爸却将大众流行化和严肃音乐的内涵在他们的作品中巧妙地结合起来。
      1967年，乐队因在“Monday,Monday”中的出色演绎获得了当年葛莱美最佳创作、年度最佳流行乐队两个奖项，6月，乐队参加了西海岸举办的蒙特利流行音乐节。
　　然而，此时的妈妈爸爸却逐渐产生了严重分歧。John Phillips和妻子Michelle在1967年离婚。
       1968年，Michelle退出乐队。2月，乐队宣告解散。

       1971年，乐队为了制作专辑《People Like Us》而重组。然而1974年32岁的Elliot在伦敦遭受了一场致命的心脏病打击后，所有关于重组的希望都破灭了。
        1982年Philips纠结Doherty、Philips身为演员的女儿、Mackenzie和Elaine “Spanky” McFarlane简单地重组了乐队。乐队以四人阵容举行了巡演，主要表演老歌和Philips原创的新歌。
         2003年，Doherty在非百老汇戏剧《Dream a Little Dream：The Mamas and the Papas Musical》中担任联合作者和演员。这部音乐剧回顾了乐队到早期历史、它耀眼的辉煌年代以及最终在毒品、酒精、Doherty和Michelle之间的情史中的分崩离析。Doherty当时对美联社说：“如果我不努力，就仅仅是舞台上痛哭流涕的一个污点。每个人都了解死亡、死去的过程还有悲伤，而坚强地活在眼下的时刻、不要为了朋友的逝去而多愁善感才是一种真正的练习。”
        2001年John Philips去世，享年65岁。

對mama&papa印象最深的應該都是California Dreaming 因为在电影《阿甘正传》（Forrest Gump）中，阿甘与女友Jenny二人相聚在一起时，响起的就有这首加州梦想，为片中Jenny一心向往嬉皮解放式的生活，道出了她的心声。
王家卫导演的电影《重庆森林》中王菲也摇头晃脑地哼唱着这旋律。

前些天看電影 Beautiful Thing 裏面全部插曲都来自the mamas and the papas组合,於是搜到了電影的原聲碟
